Italian world of wines at ProWein 2023

Free tastings and technical seminars at the ITA stand in hall 17, booth C39 & D29
Over 1,300 Italian wine producers in halls 15, 16 and 17.

From the 19th of March to the 21st of March 2023 ITA - Italian Trade Agency will present at the international wine fair ProWein 2023 a comprehensive program offering wine tastings and interactive seminars on Italian wine.

100 Italian wines for tasting at the ITA infopoint (17, C39)
Meininger's Top100 Italian wines will be available to international trade visitors and wine experts for free tasting during the three days.

Around 200 wines from all over Italy – from the peninsula and the islands – were tasted in February 2023 by selected sommeliers from Meininger publishing house. The ranking lists the best white, red, rosé, and sparkling wines of the tasting.

Everything about Italian wines - 9 professional seminars at the ITA stand (17, D29)
In front of the Info Point, at stand D29, wine journalist Christoph Raffelt and Eros Teboni, Best Sommelier of the World 2018, will conduct specialist seminars on the diversity of Italy's wine-growing regions and wine varieties: from volcanic wine and sparkling wine to food pairing tips. These and many other topics will be covered within the scope of a total of nine specialist seminars over three days.

Sunday, March 19
11:00 - Top wines from Italy: Meininger tasting TOP100
Presentation of selected wines from the TOP100 tasting of Italian wines in cooperation with Meininger Verlag. Sommelier Peter Douglas and wine journalist Christoph Raffelt will report on the tasting and present the highlights.
14:00 – Vulcanic wines from Italy
Tasting of wines made from grapes grown on volcanic soils. With Eros Teboni.
16:00 – Bordeaux blends in Italy
A special tasting dedicated to full-bodied and structured red wines. Presented by Eros Teboni.

Monday, March 20
10:00 – Italian sparkling wine
A moment fully dedicated to Italian sparkling wine - discover different production methods, appellations, and territories. With Eros Teboni.
12:00 – The minerality of Italy's great white wines
A careful selection of Italy’s iconic white wines, characterized by a marked minerality. Presented by Eros Teboni.
14:00 – Wines from the mountains of Italy
A journey to discover wines from different altitudes, understand the influence of soils, and the particular microclimate of the mountains on the bottle. Presented by Eros Teboni.
16:00 – The elegance of Italian red wines
A virtual tour to unveil the most elegant red wines of Italy. Tasting with Eros Teboni (Best Sommelier of the World 2018).

Tuesday, March 21
10:00 – Affordable wines from Italy: Meininger TOP100 tasting 
Presentation of selected, affordable wines (<5,00 €) from the TOP100 tasting of Italian wines in cooperation with Meininger Verlag. With Markus A. Dilger and Christoph Raffelt.
12:00 – Food pairing with Italian wines
Presentation of selected Italian wines from the TOP100 tasting of Meininger Verlag accompanied by culinary delicacies from Italy. Presented by Markus A. Dilger and Christoph Raffelt.
 
Over 1,400 Italian winemakers at ProWein 2023
ProWein, held in Düsseldorf since 1994, is today’s leading trade fair for the international wine and spirits industries. Out of the more than 6,000 exhibitors from all across the world, Italy is the most strongly represented country: this year, a total of +1,300 Italian wine and spirits producers will present their products at ProWein. Italy is made up of 20 wine-growing regions, all with individual topographies and climatic influences.

This diversity makes it one of the world's leading countries in the production and distribution of wine. Its total vineyard area is about 666,400 hectares, half of which is used for the production of D.O.P. wines. In 2021, production amounted to 12.5 million hectoliters (+15% compared to 2020), while the exports of Italian wines reached a value of 7 billion euros (+12% compared to 2020).

In 2021, wine imports in Germany reached a value of 2.86 billion euros (+8.71% compared to 2020). 40.8% of these came from Italy, confirming the country's leading position as Germany's first wine importing country. The total value of imports from Italy reached 1.16 billion euros in 2021 (+12.2% compared to 2020).
