The vineyards of the northernmost German wine region are about equidistant between Weimar and Leipzig. Wine has been grown for over 1,000 years on the steep limestone terraces on the Saale and Unstrut rivers. Vineyards with steep terraces, centuries-old dry-stone walls and romantic vineyard cottages characterise the scenic Saale-Unstrut wine region. In addition, medieval castles and mystical sites provide an ideal ambience that invites you to enjoy a fne wine. The local wine is distinguished by a delicate fruity bouquet and sprightly character. Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc and Riesling are the most frequently encountered grape varieties.
