The vineyards of Germany’s “red wine paradise” line the valley of the Ahr River, which joins the Rhine south of Bonn. From the heights of a basalt cone to the east or the slate cliffs to the west of the elegant spa Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, there are magnifcent views of the steep vineyards. The Ahr winemakers are among the top German wine producers. They have made the small ruggedly romantic valley a treasury of exclusive wines. Based on the philosophy of “Made from a passion for greatness”, quality is the highest priority, particularly for Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), the main varietal. Another insider’s tip is Frühburgunder (Pinot Noir Précoce), to which a special forum is dedicated every 2 years.
